Rebecca Black Proves She’s No One-Trick Pony as She Voices a Horse for a Hilarious e.l.f. Cosmetics Ad (Exclusive)

Black flexed her comedic chops for the beauty brand's latest fun commercial

She’s more than just a singer, blowing up your Spotify playlists; she also has comedic chops as a voice actress.

Black, 27, stars in e.l.f. Cosmetics’ newest ad — for the brand’s Halo Glow Liquid Filter — but if you watched the video and were confused as to why you didn’t see her, it’s because you only heard her. Yes, she’s the voice of the pony. The small-boned horse, to be precise.

In a cute new commercial, the brand touts the product’s ability to be multifaceted. It’s a “many-trick pony,” much like Black, who originally rose to fame more than a decade ago as a teenager with a catchy tune called “Friday.” But she’s proven her staying power as a musician, much like e.l.f. Cosmetics continually proves with its products that can do much more than just offer glow or coverage.

“In the e.l.f.iverse, we celebrate many superpowers. Self-expression is encouraged in every beautiful form. When it comes to Halo Glow Liquid Filter, they include cruelty free, accessibility and being the greatest glow booster you’ve ever seen. ‘The Many-Trick Pony’ is our rally to unapologetically live your bold truths — and an e.l.f.ing hilarious excuse to make a horse talk,” said Kory Marchisotto, chief marketing officer of e.l.f. Beauty in a press release. “We’re not being shy that Halo Glow Liquid Filter can shine in a thousand ways — and you don’t need anyone’s permission to do it. We’re reminding our community that there’s power in e.l.f.ing the status quo, one unexpected move at a time.”

Ahead, Black shares with PEOPLE what it was like working with e.l.f. Cosmetics on this new commercial, some of her favorite beauty tricks and what she’s most looking forward to this summer.

Rebecca Black: Working with e.l.f. felt like such a natural fit for me! It was a lot of fun being part of a hilarious campaign that celebrates versatility and Halo Glow Liquid Filter, which is an amazing product. As someone who’s evolved and explored different creative avenues, the idea of not being boxed in — not being seen as just one thing — really resonated.

Tell us a little about working on this campaign. Love that you get to voice a pony!

Black: Working with the e.l.f. team was so much fun. It’s not every day that you get to voice a multi-talented, small-boned horse, but nonetheless … a definite lifelong dream of mine. The script was funny and creative, and I had an overall great experience getting to collaborate on all my ideas of how to bring this pony to life.

e.l.f. Cosmetics’ Halo Glow Liquid Filter is a multi-trick pony, just like you. What other tricks does Rebecca Black have up her sleeve?

Black: It’s been such a fun experience to get to do so much of what I love these days, whether DJing, making music and touring my live show, directing and creating universes for my audience. I feel really lucky.

We’d love to know more about your beauty routine — what are your favorite e.l.f. Cosmetics products?

Black: It’s hard to pick favorites with e.l.f.! The products are all great quality, vegan and clean. I have used e.l.f. since high school, and I genuinely love the Halo Glow Liquid Filter. It’s become a staple in my routine because it’s so versatile, has a super accessible price point, and the quality is incredible. It really gives such a gorgeous, healthy glow, whether I’m wearing it on its own, under makeup, or mixed in. [But], the entire Halo Glow collection is awesome — whether you want to add blush, contour, highlight or powder to finish your look. I’ve also love bringing the Glow Reviver Lip Oil with me on the go so my lips always stay hydrated and cute.

How would you describe your beauty vibe?

Black: Honestly, it changes by the day. I’ve definitely embraced a less is more approach as I’ve gotten older, which is why I love a multi-use product. [Daily], I really only spend like five minutes on my makeup, but when it comes to shows, I love the art of perfecting and crafting a look over time.

When we first met you, you were just 13 years old — how has your beauty routine changed over the years?

Black: I think I’ve really learned how to embrace my features rather than try to cover them up, or make myself look like anyone else but me. I’ve loved the confidence that comes with getting older and knowing who you are more and more each day!
