A Stormy Evening on a Quiet Street
Rain was falling heavily over a quiet suburban neighborhood.
Street lights reflected on the wet asphalt while water flowed quickly along the roadside drains. Most people had already gone home to escape the storm.
The streets were nearly empty.
But beside one of the drains, a tiny white puppy sat alone.
Its small body was completely soaked.
The cold rain fell endlessly around it while the puppy trembled from the cold.
The little animal cried loudly, hoping someone might hear it.
Water rushed past its paws while the wind pushed the rain across the empty street.
It looked lost and frightened.
A Dangerous Moment
Suddenly, the sound of a car engine echoed down the road.
Headlights cut through the rain as a dark SUV approached quickly.
The driver didn’t notice the tiny animal near the curb.
The vehicle sped through a large puddle beside the road.
In a burst of muddy water, a huge splash flew into the air.
The dirty water crashed directly over the small puppy.

A young woman walked through the rain wearing a gray jacket with the hood pulled over her head.
She was heading home, trying to avoid the heavy storm.
Then she heard the faint crying sound.

The puppy was now clean, dry, and fluffy again.
It happily climbed into the woman’s arms.
The tiny dog wagged its tail and licked her face.
The woman laughed and hugged the puppy tightly.
Only hours earlier, the small animal had been alone in the rain.
Now it had warmth, safety, and someone who cared.
